Native VR video player for PS VR2 on jailbroken PS5: 8K, 180/360, 3D, spatial audio

Release notes

First release of PS5VR, a native VR video player for PlayStation VR2 on a jailbroken PS5. Tested on 13.60.

Install

  • Unzip PS5VR-1.0.0-PPSA99177.zip and copy the PPSA99177 folder to /data/homebrew/ on the console. ShadowMount+ installs it as a "PS5VR" tile.
  • Send ps5vr-helper.elf to your ELF loader on port 9021 (or add it to your autoload list). It gives PS5VR access to /data and USB drives, and is needed for hands & eyes.
  • Put your videos in /data/ps5vr/videos, on a USB drive, or on a DLNA server, and launch PS5VR.

What's in 1.0.0

  • 360° / 180° / flat, mono / SBS / OU, MV-HEVC spatial video and 3D Blu-ray (MVC)
  • Hardware HEVC/H.264 up to 8K, 120 Hz output, 10-bit, 4096 px per eye, FSR sharpening
  • Spatial audio from stereo, 5.1/7.1 and ambisonics, turning with your head
  • In-headset library and View menu, recentre, auto-pause, mirror to TV
  • Sources: internal storage, USB, DLNA, RSS, DeoVR and HereSphere libraries, Real-Debrid, with parallel read-ahead for big network files
  • Hands & eyes (experimental, off by default): look and pinch to select

Coming in the next update: smooth motion (frame generation, 8K60 shown at 60) and HDR in the headset. Their View menu rows are already there but have no effect yet; 8K60 plays at a steady 30 fps in 1.0.0.
